Tom Petty with dinosaur, Encino, CA, 1989
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Tom Petty's house burned down in 1987 and when I first visited him at home he was living in his temporary house while the burned one was being rebuilt. I walked into his living room and he was on the couch holding a two-foot-long Indian peace pipe packed and ready to burn and said, “I thought we’d sit around and talk about photography for a while before we actually start doing some…” Sufficiently peace-piped, I stuffed Tom behind the drapes and the dinosaur appeared from out of nowhere.
