ABOUT THIS PIECE

The shoot occurred in Duffy’s London studio with Bowie elevated on a plinth and Duffy high up in the rafters, shooting the image on Kodachrome film. You can just about make out the wires attached to Bowie’s face which were gently pulled to distort his features so that he appears to be falling. His bandaged hand is a result of a coffee spill that morning.
