ABOUT THIS PIECE
Photographer's Notes:It was hard to know when was a good time to approach Bill because he was always so busy when he came to New York, and one never knew exactly what might set off his famous temper. But at some point he began to notice my photographs, which were sometimes used in the weekly programs, with a few of them also on display in the main F.E. administrative office downstairs. He started treating me with respect and I gathered the courage to ask if I could photograph him in his upstairs private office on a day when his son David, two years old at the time, was visiting. I had free rein for about an hour, during which a visiting journalist also conducted an interview with Bill. This photograph is from near the end of the hour and shows a tired but reflective man.
