Collection: Chalkie Davies

One day I asked a Beatle to move his hand and he did. That was a feeling of power. I never looked back.’ – Chalkie Davies

Like many music photographers, you probably won’t recognize him. You may never have even heard of him and chances are until fairly recently, you won’t have seen much of his work.

But during the 70s and 80s Chalkie Davies was a key photographer with publications such as the NME and The Face shooting the likes of the Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Specials, Elvis Costello and of course flatmate Phil Lynott’s Thin Lizzy. But for 30 years, many of his iconic pictures have been locked away unseen, waiting, as Davies says, until they had a ‘cultural relevance.’
